Overlooking and embodying the wild, from the inside out

Arastradero Landscape Pool Mural

Private Residential

2010

This is a true 360-degree mural, with artwork covering the walls and extending onto the ceiling. Painted directly onto smooth stucco, the mural surrounds the viewer with subtle earth tones and a sense of place rooted in the local ecology. Each section depicts native California flora and fauna, bringing the Arastradero Preserve into the heart of the home.

The project was commissioned in 2010 and required close collaboration with both the homeowner and the architectural team. To ensure longevity in a moisture-prone environment, we used top-tier archival paints and sealed the entire surface with a waterproof, UV-protective coating. These added steps were critical to help the work thrive long-term.

The result is a space that doesn’t just reference nature, it immerses you in it.

We had the pleasure of working with Josh on a mural project in the therapy pool room in our basement more than a decade ago. Josh brought extraordinary creativity, skill, and collaborative spirit to every element of the project.

The building of our home in Palo Alto was a complex project, including the mural installed in a room filled with warm humid air and indirect lighting. Josh had to work in the middle of a lot of chaos, given the complexity of our Leed Platinum house, but nonetheless he was able to deliver a lovely large piece of wall art (on four walls and the ceiling). He made the whole process easy and collaborative from design to implementation.

Josh is a joy to work with and, from having seen a number of his other projects, a brilliant artist, designer and installer in everything he takes on. I wholeheartedly give him my highest recommendation.
